Stash Enhancement Saturday: Desert Vista Dyeworks

They’re here! They’re here! They’re here!

Like many of us, I find Instagram to be a wealth of inspiration and a source to find new products that I must have.  Several of my knitting friends were posting the most beautiful striped socks at the beginning of the year as part of various contests, and one particular new to me dyer kept popping up over and over again.  I was intrigued.  I was curious.  I had money burning a hole in my pocket.  So like any good craft shopper, I whipped out my credit card and went in search of the pretties.

The new to me dyer was Desert Vista Dyeworks.  I picked out a few skeins, paid, and then waited.  And then waited.  And then waited some more, lol.  Okay, maybe I should have done some investigating before purchasing.  It turns out Desert Vista Dyeworks dyes to order, so once you place your order you actually need to wait for them to dye your yarn before it shows up.  But once the skeins get here, they are totally worth it!  Behold my new stash additions!

The four skeins I chose were from the Let Them Eat Cake! Collection.  From left to right, the colorways are Strawberry Shortcake, Happy Birthday Cupcake!, German Chocolate Cake, and Lemon Blueberry Cake.  One of the things I really like about this vendor is that you can sometimes buy mini skeins for heels and toes to match the colors in the striping colorway.  I like having my heels and toes a different color, so I totally went for it and bought matching skeins for each of my four purchases.

You can choose from a variety of bases, but since I am currently obsessed with self-striping socks, I purchased the Sock base which is 75% Superwash Merino and 25% Nylon.  It comes in a super generous put up of 462 yards, so I might actually be able to squeeze two pairs of socks out of the skein if I am strategic in my length and heel and toe choices.  I was pleased with the yarn to the touch, it seems like it will knit up quite nicely.

I’ll update with how I like it post knitting once I have an opportunity to work with it, but from a shopper’s perspective, there is no buyer’s remorse here!
