Oklahoma has my favorite roadside attraction on all of Rute 66 – The Blue Whale of Catoosa. I have no idea why I am fascinated by this whale – it’s a simple structure built on the edge of a pond that was once a swimming hole, but it is adorable and it was one of my must sees on this vacation.
I mean, look! Even the little entrance is adorable!
I definitely do not recommend going in the water, though. The color was very suspicious.
Oklahoma also happens to have my favorite of all of the old gas stations. This one looks like a little dollhouse rather than a place to fill the gas tank up.
Oklahoma is probably best known for their round barn and the giant soda pop in front of Pop’s in Arcadia, but I found the little milk bottle grocery to be too cute and the one cell jail cell in Texola to be fascinating. The single jail cell is out in the middle of nowhere. What crime can you even commit in the middle of nowhere? But at least once you get out of jail, there is a watering hole just a short walk away.
